Jetpod — Zaw Aung

Jetpod is an electric personal watercraft designed for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the safe and independent recreational water activity. For novice, kids and disabled people, going out on water by themselves can be a daunting quest. Jetpod's wide body provides unparalleled buoyancy and balance for the rider to feel a sense of comfort and safety. I served as the lead engineer in design and prototyping of Jetpod units that were deployed in Hawaii and Australia for recreational use and in Palo Alto VA hospital for therapeutic use by disabled veterans.

Jetpod consists of a top plate, the inflatable body with cavity in the middle, and the propulsion pod. The inflatable body fits over the pod and the top plate is tightened down onto the pod. Bike tube is inserted underneath the top plate and pumped until the desired tension is reached.

Body of Jetpod is constructed from inflatable drop stitch material. The custom shaped inflatable was designed and manufactured in collaboration with an independent SUP manufacturer.

Electronics and propulsion unit are incorporated in the pod. Top plate is keyed in a specific configuration to turn on the pod. Red magnet functions as both on/off switch and the emergency kill switch. IP67 vent is used to equalize the pressure inside the pod.
